Abstract

Based on the monitor and acceptance theory, this study aimed to investigate the relationship between dispositional mindfulness and the mental health of 460 professional athletes. The results showed that: 1) Dispositional mindfulness positively predicted subjective well-being and negatively predicted depression-anxiety-stress, basic psychological needs satisfaction and self-compassion respectively played separate and serial mediation in this association. 2) There were significant gender differences in this model. When subjective well-being was taken as the outcome variable, the mediating effect of the male group was greater than that of the female group. When depression-anxiety-stress was used as the outcome variable, the mediating effect was greater in the female group than in the male group. The findings of this study have theoretical and practical implications for more specialized prevention and intervention measures.
