The Impact of Negative Life Events in College Students' Suicidal Ideation: Mediating Role of Rumination and Moderating Role of Dispositional Optimism

Abstract

Abstract: From the perspective of positive psychology, the present study constructed a moderated mediation model to examine whether or not rumination mediates the relationship between negative life events and college students' suicidal ideation, and whether or not this mediating process is moderated by dispositional optimism. For this purpose, 1191 college students were recruited to participate in this study with Beck Scale for Suicide Ideation, Adolescent Self-Rating Life Events Check List, Rumination Response Scale-Chinese Version and the Life Orientation Test-revised. The results were as followings:1) Negative life events significantly contributed to rumination and suicidal ideation; 2) Rumination played a mediating role in the relationship between negative life events and suicidal ideation; 3) Dispositional optimism moderated the mediated path through rumination, such that this mediating effect was only significant for one with dispositional optimism at a low level.

摘要： 以积极心理学的视角，基于自杀的应激-易感模型和自杀的缓冲假设，考察负性生活事件与自杀意念的关系，并探讨反刍思维的中介作用及气质性乐观的调节作用。采用青少年生活事件量表、反刍思维量表、修订版生活倾向问卷、贝克自杀意念量表，对1191名大学生进行集体施测，结果表明：（1）负性生活事件对大学生的反刍思维和自杀意念均有显著正向预测作用；（2）反刍思维在负性生活事件与自杀意念之间具有中介作用；（3）气质性乐观对反刍思维与自杀意念的中介过程存在调节作用，相对于气质性乐观水平较高的大学生，中介效应仅在气质性乐观水平低的大学生中显著。
