In order to stduy the characters of coping strategies and self-concept, and the relationship between coping and self-concept of different styles of life orientation in junior middle school students, 515 students participated in the measurement of the life orientation test, coping strategies and self-concept. The results showed that optimists were predominant in different styles of life orientation, and there were significant difference among coping strategies and self-concept in junior middle school students. There was significant corretation between positive coping strategies and self-concept, but no corretation between negative coping strategies and self-concept in different styles of life orientation.

    Abstract ( )   PDF (431KB) ( )   References | Related Articles | Metrics
The present study explored categorization and representation difference between the high middle students with good schoolwork and the ones with bad schoolwork, using a free and a labeled categorization test and sixteen high middle physics mechanics application problems. The present study also explored problems′ statement manner′s(with and without the present of sketch map)influence on high middle students′ mechanics problem category representation. The study found that:(1)In the free categorization test, high middle students with good schoolwork categorized physics problem based on deep character(physics principle representation), but high middle students with bad schoolwork categorized physics problem based on face character(letter representation). Problems′ statement manner also had some difference on categorization time and categorization representation between high middle students with good schoolwork and students with bad schoolwork.(2)In the labeled categorization test, accuracy rate of high middle students with good schoolwork was remarkably higher than high middle students with bad schoolwork. Accuracy rate of good students with sketch map was remarkably higher than that of good students without sketch map.

The eye-movement-contingent display change technique was used in this study to explore the perceptual span of Chinese two-character word based reading of 12 Senior high School Students. The results are as follows:(1)senior high school students′ perceptual span of Chinese two-character words based reading was asymmetric;(2)senior high school students′ perceptual span of Chinese two-character words based reading was 1 two-character word to the left of the fixated word and 2 two-character words to its right.

    Abstract ( )   PDF (421KB) ( )   References | Related Articles | Metrics
According to the research of six mass media which influenced the formation and development of university students′ personal values, we found that the order from big to small was television, network, newspaper, books, magazines and films. The television and network were the main mass media which influenced the formation and development of university students′ personal values. The further analyse suggested that it had differences in gender, subject type and origin. Most of female university students, arts students and the students who came from villages and towns thought that television was main medium factor which influenced the formation and development of university students′ personal values. But most of male university students, natural science students and the students who came from city thought that network was main medium factor which influenced the formation and development of university students′ personal values.

    Abstract ( )   PDF (410KB) ( )   References | Related Articles | Metrics
To explore the characteristics and the impact of learning adaptablity of talented primary school children, 231 talented primary school children were investigated by Learning Adaptability Scale(I),(II)and Learning Habits and Examination Skill Self-Inventory. The results showed that:(1)There were significant differences between talented and talentless children in learning adaptablity, learning habits and examination skills;(2)Talented urban school children were significantly better than talented rural school children in learning life, learning habits, learning methods, reading habits and examination skills;(3)Talented girls was significantly better than talented boys in learning adaptability(p<0.01), but talented girls the poor independence and other symptoms of emotional disorders, while talented boys was significantly worse than talented girls in learning habits. There were no significant gender differences in learning habits and examination skills.(4)Except the attitude of the school factor, there were significant correlations among learning adaptability, learning habits, learning methods, reading habits and skills, preparation and examination and so on.

    Abstract ( )   PDF (476KB) ( )   References | Related Articles | Metrics
This study examined relationship between the incaution in exam and properties of neuronal activities, quality of handwriting. 314 pupils in grade 3 to 5 from primary school were measured in incaution in exam, properties of neuronal activities and quality of handwriting. The current study showed that(a)pupils′ incaution in exam had any relation to neither intensity of cortical neuronal activities nor equilibrium of cortical neuronal activities and, (b)pupils′ incaution was moderately positive correlation with quality of handwriting.
EFFECTS OF WORKING MEMORY AND DOMAIN KNOWLEDGE ON COGNITIVE PERFORMANCE
    Cai Xiaoyue,Su Jing
    2008, 6(4):  306-310.
    Abstract ( )   References | Related Articles | Metrics
Recently, research suggests that both working memory capacity and domain knowledge contribute to individual cognitive performance. Three different oriented stadies have implications for the relationship between working memory and domain knowledge: 1)researchers emphasize the single effect of working memory or domain knowledge on cognitive performance; 2)the different effect of working memory and domain knowledge was investigated on cognitive performance synthetically; 3)the authors construct models to explain the interplay between working memory and domain knowledge. Finally the authors anticipates further research on the studies of working memory and domain knowledge.

Tolerance of ambiguity refers to the way an individual or group perceives and processes information about ambiguous situations when they are confronted by an array of unfamiliar complex or incongruent cues. Based on the previous research in this field, the present study reviewed tolerance of ambiguity′s concept and history, and focused on the current research on it′s measuring and relationships with organization, culture, cognition and other personality variables. Among them, the relationship between tolerance of ambiguity and creativity is one of the most noticeable aspects. Suggestions for future research were also discussed.
