The Influence of Constrictive Context on the Processing of Unpredictable Word in Chinese Reading

摘要： 通过操纵语境限制性和目标词预测类型考察了汉语阅读中的预测误差成本，探讨了语境预测加工方式。实验1发现，不可预测词在高限制性语境中的加工快于低限制性语境，未表现出预测误差成本。实验2在实验1基础上进一步控制不可预测词和可预测词的语义不相关后发现，不可预测词在高、低限制性语境中的加工没有差异，亦未表现出预测误差成本。研究结果支持了等级预激活假说。

Abstract: Two experiments were conducted to investigate the prediction error cost by manipulating the contextual constraint and word predictability. The results of Experiment 1 showed unpredictable words had shorter fixation times and more skipping in high contextual constraint than low contextual constraint. Experiment 2 controlled the semantic relevance of unpredictable words and predictable words. It was found that the processing of unpredictable words did not show any differences between high and low contextual constraint. Both Experiment 1 and Experiment 2 indicated no prediction error cost. The results supported grade pre-activation hypothesis, suggesting readers predict upcoming word by means of hierarchical pre-activation based on previous context.
